Opening a new title insurance agency was a dream of one entrepreneur. However, she had no experience in setting up a business computer network. Cohn Consulting Corporation, inside of two weeks, ordered and installed all aspects of the 5-person network, including cabling, PC’s, Internet access, firewall, VPN, antivirus, network printing, backup, e-mail, and applications. This gave the entrepreneur a rock-solid IT foundation while freeing her up to concentrate on other aspects of opening the agency.

The Challenge

The owner of the new title insurance agency needed to get the company off to a fast start. However, she had no experience with computer networks and needed someone she could trust to do the job right.

She needed high-speed Internet access ordered, cabling put in, and all of the PC’s for her and her staff setup. In addition, she needed all of the standard software installed (Microsoft Office, antivirus, accounting, etc), as well as specialized software for the title insurance industry.

The Solution

Cohn Consulting Corporation provided recommendations for telecommunications providers and helped coordinate the installation of high-speed Internet services. We worked with cable installers to get the network physically cabled.

We provided detailed specifications for PC’s, which the owner purchased from Dell. The systems were Pentium 4’s with 512MB of memory and came pre-loaded with Windows XP and Office XP.

We provided a Sonicwall firewall, NetGear 10/100 switch, Norton SystemWorks 2003, and APC Smart-UPS units, as well as a tape backup unit and Quicken accounting software.

Cohn Consulting Corporation installed all components; applied service and updates; configured all workstations for peer-to-peer networking, including file and print sharing and user setup; administered the ISP’s e-mail and domain hosting facilities to set up e-mail for all users; setup the accounting software; and set up a automated tape backup process. In addition, we worked with the title insurance industry application provider to get the primary application installed and configured. Lastly, we set up the system for remote access for an off-site employee using the VPN capability of the Sonicwall firewall.

The entire job, from initial systems design through ordering and receipt to final installation and test was performed in two weeks.

By working quickly, she was able to open her doors on schedule. And she ended up with a rock-solid information technology foundation that allows her business to quickly process its work without having to learn how to put it all together.
