Anatomy of a BotNet
CSO Online has an interesting graphic presentation of the anatomy of a botnet. A botnet is a network of zombie, or compromised, computers running programs that are usually installed by worms or trojans (such as are downloaded by pop-up malware). These botnets can and have been used to send spam, to harvest passwords and other personal information, and to launch distributed denial of service attacks against other Internet sites. One such bot-net, the Storm botnet, contains hundreds of thousands to millions of compromised systems and has been known to host phishing sites intended to collect online bank account passwords. Cohn Consulting clients depend on Cohn CareTM Gold services to keep their systems from becoming compromised |

Cohn Care™ Gold: Continuous Maintenance for Your NetworkIn the business world, when the computers are down, companies lose money. It’s not just the cost of having an IT services firm fix the problem. It’s the lost productivity of the staff, the wasted payroll, and the operations that grind to a halt. It’s the lost opportunities and sales, the business that didn’t happen because the orders couldn’t be processed.
Cohn Care™ Gold changes the equation. It provides 24x7 monitoring to warn about situations that could lead to down time, allowing Cohn Consulting to fix them before they become problems. It provides continuous and proactive maintenance to make sure systems perform at their best and are less prone to failure. And it provides priority response to minimize the impact of unavoidable failures and get the systems back up and running quickly.

A freight forwarder trucking company had a pair of older servers rapidly running out of space. The servers were unable to keep up with the growing demands of the office and the mail server database and were becoming expensive to maintain and expand. Cohn Consulting Corporation replaced the two servers with a single IBM e-Server xSeries server in a fault-tolerant configuration. The resulting network provides better performance and reliability. Replacing point-to-point links with a VPN framework has reduced telecommunications costs and provided secure remote access for the principles in the company. |

An Atlanta-based oral surgery practice with over a dozen offices spread throughout the north metro and surrounding north Georgia area faced the daunting task of Internet-enabling their offices securely and deploying PCs and network-based printing ahead of a short rollout schedule of their new Internet-based practice management system. Cohn Consulting Corporation provided the firewall hardware and managed the rollout, installing and configuring all the equipment ahead of the software vendor’s deployment schedule. The practice was able to concentrate on all other aspects of the practice management migration, secure in the knowledge that their IT infrastructure was in good hands |
